Original Bergischer Engel Solingen-Wald, a mountain angel from the Solingen Forest.
It was founded by artist Johanna Gruner-Witkop in autumn after the end of World War II in 1945, when she just turned 17 years old. For those Germans who had experienced the baptism of fire, they had a new definition of survival. They were therefore actively seeking fro a new livelihood. Angel (Engel) may probably the founder's wish for a brand new life back then!
Original Bergischer Engel Solingen-Wald's wall figures were all hand-painted. At first, they were mainly painting angels, and later they started producing all kinds of figures, especially Hampelmänner (Jumping Jack). All figures were designed by Ms. Gruner-Witkop. Around 1960, most of the products were finished outside the house in Solingen Forest, thus the brand later added the word Solingen-Wald for further identification.
They are cute home decor in a nursery or in the room of a child. Could be a great gift for a collector of Bergischer Engel Solingen-Wald.
